Build Richer Effects by Layering Simple Elements

If you’re looking for a quick and flashy way to create effects, here’s my simple approach.
I simply add keys layer by layer.
The image above was created just by adding squares without any complex thinking.

Contents

1. Basic Scaling

We start with simple scaling.
Simplicity!

2. Add Brightness Changes

We make the shape black during expansion and white simultaneously with contraction to add contrast.
I think this adds a bit more flair.

3. Add Rotation

We add variation by rotating the image (duplicating it and flipping left/right).
The sense of expansion from just squares has increased even further.

4. Add a Frame to Emphasize the Center

The frame adds even more depth to the space.

5. Make the Frame More Detailed

I’ve added some finer details.
This includes varying the border thickness and adding an inner frame.

6. Make it stand out with flashing

I’ve added a bright, eye-catching flash effect that really pops!

7. Let’s change the background too

I’ve added movement to the entire scene using scaling effects on the background.
We can now use the whole screen!

8. Add smaller squares

Since there were so many large squares, I added some smaller fragments to create a bit more contrast and visual interest.

9. Add color for the finish

The final step is adding color to complete the look.

Avoid Overloading

Addition effects are easy to create, but balancing them becomes difficult. It’s also tempting to just keep adding more and more elements.

I personally love flashy, information-rich effects; however, I believe it is much harder to create simple yet memorable ones.
A simple effect that leaves a lasting impression doesn’t tire the viewer’s eyes and can be watched repeatedly. After adding too many elements, try reducing the overall information density so you end up with an engaging design that stays in memory (though achieving this balance isn’t as easy as it sounds…).
